The village was peaceful, with golden fields of wheat swaying in the wind, and cottages with thatched roofs that smelled of warm bread and fresh apples. Just outside the village, a sparkling river ran through the valley, winding like a silver ribbon. Its water was clear and cool, and along its banks stood a great oak tree. This tree was unlike any other in the valley—it was the tallest, strongest, and most beautiful of them all. Its branches stretched toward the sky, offering shade to the weary, and its roots reached deep into the earth, drawing from the river’s life-giving waters. Many of the villagers admired the tree.
